Known as the \u201cProvince of Literature\u201d, Jiangsu has produced the largest number of \u201cZhuangyuan\u201d (number one scholar) in China over the ages, and the “Four Great Classical Novels” are all more or less related to Jiangsu. In addition, famous literati in ancient times, such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Su Shi, Bai Juyi and Ouyang Xiu have all left poems or iambic verse on this land. Even the first Chinese \u201cbackpacker\u201d, the famous geographer, traveller and literato Xu Xiake, came from Jiangsu.<\/p>\n

There is no denying that Jiangsu is a cultural and historical accumulation of the best of cultures.<\/p>\n

To promote cultural understanding of Jiangsu to Singaporeans, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism will hold the \u201cJiangsu Cultural and Tourism Promotion Seminar\u201d on 23 July (Saturday) at 3pm at the 4th floor theatre of Singapore China Cultural Centre. The seminar is co-organised by the Jiangsu Tourism (Singapore & Malaysia) Promotion Centre and supported by the Singapore China Cultural Centre, the China National Tourist Office in Singapore and the Jiangsu Association (Singapore).<\/p>\n

The seminar will showcase the cultural charms of Jiangsu from three perspectives: literature, tea and wine. In the literature session, Ye Ming Li, Editor-in-Chief of sgwritings.com, will take participants on a tour of the fun places in Jiangsu with new perspectives on literature, poetry and film. At the same time, Kenry Peh, the owner of a nearly century-old tea house, will invite participants to sip on Suzhou Dongting Biluochun with him, and enjoy the scenery while sipping tea. The wine session will introduce the \u201cCapital of Chinese White Wine\u201d–Suqian and its famous Yanghe wine. In addition, there will also be a photo exhibition and a photo booth in the outer hall to showcase Jiangsu tourism information to the public.<\/p>\n
